Nutrition Tracking Site

The other day I received a fun e-mail from a person at “SlimKicker“. They said they found my blog and would like to do a giveaway for my blog followers. Don’t get too excited. I did let them know I would LOVE to do a giveaway but I haven’t heard anything more from them yet. We’ll see.

Before I e-mailed them, I checked out their site. I didn’t want to get involved with anything/anyone unless I knew what I was getting into. Turns out the site is for logging personal health info., like nutrition, exercise etc… It’s similar to FitDay and DailyBurn. As you may know, I LOVE that stuff – love, love, love gadgetry.

I don’t track my macronutrients often but every now and then I like to check in and see where I’m at. I haven’t done it for a while so I figured this was the perfect time to “check in” while at the same time giving SlimKicker a trial run. I really like it. Prior to this, TheDailyBurn has been my favorite nutrition tracker site. SlimKicker is really easy to use, just like DailyBurn. The one thing that seems to be a little different to me is the “Challenges”. I don’t usually sign up for that stuff but the ones listed at SlimKicker are so reasonable that I couldn’t resist. Today I signed up for the “3 Different Veggies A Day” challenge. There are two things about this challenge that I like. It seems really doable and I could WIN! I can eat 3 different veggies a day easily and usually do. Fun! I was pretty excited about this and then I noticed that it’s a “giveaway” challenge. Prizes!? I LOVE prizes! The chances of me winning a prize are slim (I never actually win anything) but that’s o.k., I’m just excited to know I will probably complete the challenge. Success in any form always makes me feel good. I may pass out if I actually ever win a prize.

I haven’t actually had any contact with SlimKicker since the unexpected e-mail. They are not paying me or asking me to endorse their site. I just like it and thought some of you might like it too so I wanted to pass it along. Oh, the other nice thing about their nutrition tracking, it tracks sugar. The DailyBurn only tracks Calories, Fat, Carbs and Protein. You have to pay to get sugar etc..

  • Protein
  • Cholesterol (I don’t like this one)
  • Sodium
  • Fiber
  • Sugar

This is really the best thing about the site. Being able to track Sugar and Fiber is awesome!

When you create your account the site asks questions about you and what you are trying to achieve: weight loss, health etc.. based on your answers it generates a daily calorie allotment. It also breaks your calories into carbs, fats and protein. At first I was a little put off by this. It only gave me 1794 calories per day as a maintenance level. I thought this was way too low but I figured I’d give it ago and see if my calories ended up working out to what they suggested. I also didn’t particularly like the way it broke down my carbs, fats and proteins. I tend to be lower carb with higher fat and protein. Again, I decided I’d just go with it and see if I naturally fell within their suggested range. The good news is, you can go into your profile and adjust all of this yourself. If you have a calorie goal and/or carb, protein, fat goals you can set all that up manually.

It’s only been a few days. So far I haven’t hit any of the target numbers the site generated for me. That’s bad. I need to eat more. My husband is away and when he travels I hardly eat – bad, bad, bad. I guess that is one good thing that has come of this. I now realize I have to pay more attention to what I’m eating when I’m the only one I need to feed.

If you like to track your food and aren’t married to the site you currently use you might want to check SlimKicker out. They also have an iphone app. It’s good and links to your on-line profile so you can add food through the app or on your computer at home and it all syncs up.
